At times, I am lazy or just don't want to deal with setting up lights. Especially when I'm hungry. I also have two little girls that needs plenty of attention, with one old enough to knock my stands and speedlights over.
This shot of my wife's Bruschetta, had taken only seconds to set up. Let me explain.

Photoshop Illustration

I created this blog mainly because, I really didn't want to update blogs for my two other websites (fotobyme.com and artworkbyme.com). On top of having two separate blogs, they were on platforms which were restricted to apple's iWeb software, on only ONE mac. You can't easily take your work to another mac then publish it there, unlike most web based blogs.

From time to time I'll get away from photography a bit, and talk about my illustrations, design and other creative process.

Anyway, here is a cover I illustrated back in july of '09.

I sketched it up on real paper, with a real pencil (yes, those still exist for us illustrators), scanned the image then illustrated it in photoshop.

Flaky morning commute

Snow flakes were huge, and plentiful this morning.

A great opportunity to photograph some snowfall on my way to work.

D700 with zeiss 100mm f2

Here's a shot of the empire state building, last night.

Zeiss 100mm f2 makro with d700 @f4 (click here for full jpeg):

I work right by this building, see it every single day and night. It's boring to look at except, when the weather is really bad. That's when things get interesting.

Revised Zeiss 100mm f2 review

I want to thank everyone with their input on my new blog, especially my first post regarding the zeiss 100mm f2.

One major oversight was the inclusion of full size jpegs or 100% crops to backup my claims of the lens' performance.

I have updated the post here: http://fotoartbyme.blogspot.com/2010/01/zeiss-100mm-f2-makro-planar-lens-with.html along with links to full sized images.

Recently got commissioned by a subsidiary of Reuters to shoot the february cover and cover story spread. Venture Capitalist Journal (VCJ) asked me to take a few pictures of this bigshot VC/Investor, Alan Patricof, who resides here in Manhattan.

DIY Macro lighting setup.

Macro photography can be fun and challenging. When the sun is at its' brightest, you can shoot at minimum apertures and fast shutter speeds to get those crickets in good focus. So what happens when there isn't enough light to get your aperture or shutter where you want it? answer: create your own light!

D3x with ZEISS 100mm f2 makro

This was taken with aperture priority at f2.0!

Zeiss 100mm f2 makro-planar, the lens with a soul.

What better way to start off a fresh blog page than by writing about one of the best prime lenses ever made. The Carl Zeiss 100mm f2 makro! Yes, this is my very first post and coincidentally, my very first Zeiss lens!
